Phil, let's go one step further: After he released his pastoral letter, Cardinal Mahony got in a fairly pubilc fight with Mother Angelica of EWTN, who was critical of cardinal's approach to the Eucharist. Based on your reading of Ecclesia de Eucharistia, whose side do you think the Pope would take: Cardinal Mahony's or Mother Angelica's?
