Source and summit

By Phil Lawler (bio - articles ) | Apr 17, 2003

Read the Holy Father's new encylical, and you have a fresh reminder that the Eucharist is the "source and summit" of Catholic spiritual life.

For a stark contrast, take another look at Cardinal Mahony's pastoral letter on the Eucharistic liturgy. Is he talking about the same topic?

One specific question: Does the Eucharist bring together the community, or does the community bring about the Eucharist? That question is addressed in both documents. Is the answer the same?
