The Arab perspective
By Phil Lawler (bio - articles ) | April 15, 2003 10:15 AM

For the past month or so, hackers have been wreaking havoc on the new English-language web site of Al Jazeera. Apparently these hackers think that, since the US is at war with one Arab country, it's "patriotic" to shut down the flow of information coming from a different Arab country. (And you wonder why the Arab world is worried about American attitudes?)
If you can get through to the Al Jazeera site, you'll get an interesting new perspective on the war in Iraq. It's certainly not an American perspective, but it's not Iraqi propaganda, either.
Moreover, Al Jazeera's reporting is improving by the week. Today, for instance, you can find an overdue explanation of the Republican Guard didn't put up much resistance, and a sober perspective on the mounting diplomatic pressure being applied to Syria.
