Off the Record

Lee & Leo XIII

By Diogenes (articles ) | January 31, 2004 11:14 AM

Utterly null, absolutely void, and, apparently, hard on the cortical synapses as well.

If you must make a choice between heresy and schism, always choose heresy," said the Rt. Rev. Peter J. Lee to 500 Episcopalians meeting for the annual diocesan council at the Hyatt Regency in Reston. "For as a heretic, you are only guilty of a wrong opinion," Bishop Lee said, quoting Presbyterian scholar James McCord. "As a schismatic, you have torn and divided the body of Christ. Choose heresy every time."

I prefer the OT, where we are instructed to "choose life, so that you and your descendants may live".

"United in lies?" Only truth is indivisible. One had better be willing to risk everything to find it.

Lee begs the essential question: If one's church remains orthodox, is it *ever* necessary to choose between heresy and schism?

The Rt Rev Sara Lee appears to have misplaced his Aquinas. Aquinas was referring to mortal vs venial sin about staying in the Church vs leaving. The heretic (or in mod speak, the pentitent with a whiff of heretical aftershave or cologne) by staying in does more damage than by leaving over principle. Starting up your own Tower of Babel is quite another thing; as has been said before (referring to Ratzinger's Christian Brotherhood).
