Our Fabulous Florida Bishops, Snapshot #1

Distressed by some of the comments critical of the Florida bishops that are bouncing around the blogs, I thought it timely to give the broader picture, in order to put into better perspective the contribution to the Catholic faith made by these exceptionally dutiful shepherds.
Back in 1989, a tragic mishap during an amniocentesis procedure performed at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Jacksonville led to the death of Gwendolyn Young's unborn child (who was punctured by the needle). As the hospital was Catholic, the diocese voluntarily made use of its resources to compensate the bereft parents, right? Wrong. The hospital's lawyers argued in court that, since the fetus was not a person under Florida law, they were obligated to pay nothing. (For the Brief on the Merits of the Respondent, go here).

My husband is always saying, "It would be a different story if they were the one who was aborted in the womb!" I wonder if they ever think that just maybe their punishment after their time is up that they will know and suffer over and over again what an aborted baby felt.
