Off the Record

George Orwell, call your office

By Leila (articles ) | October 22, 2003 7:40 PM

You don't even know where to start, contemplating the topsy-turvy world of the death-dealers. George Felos, Michael Schiavo's lawyer (see Dom's comments about his credentials, below), sees Terri's rescue as an "absolute horrible tragedy": she was "literally being abducted from her deathbed and her death process."

Right. And when police found Elizabeth Smart, she was "literally abducted from her abduction and the abduction process."

Being abducted from her deathbed and her death process? I should hope so!

It has already been done Pseudo. Go to the website listed under the subject, The Roman Catholic Faithful (not to be confused with the liberal organization "Voice of the Faithful") Scroll down towards the bottom of the page until you find "A Translation of the Cardinal’s Communiqué by James Bendell of Roman Catholic Faithful: A study in Orwellian Newspeak." Unfortunately, they may have removed the link. Too cuttingly honest, I guess.

They use the same vacuous phrases as the management speak Communications Misdirectors at the Diocese offices. Rather than Orwell, Josef Pieper's Abuse of Language -- Abuse of Power (Ignatius) is a recommended read. If this keeps up, Pseudodionysius will be forced to write a Diocesan and Parish Doublespeak guide for the laity. The Sophists are alive and well.
