Florida bishop strikes fear in the heart of anti-life forces

By Diogenes (articles ) | Oct 16, 2003

Official Statement of Bishop Robert N. Lynch Concerning the Removal of the Feeding Tube of Terri Schiavo

With the news that the feeding tube has now been removed from Terri Schiavo, my own prayers and those of thousands of other people go out for Terri and for her family. May the author of all life look kindly on Terri and provide consolation and hope for those who love her.

I continue to believe that such decisions should not be made in the court system but must be made on a case-by-case basis by families and/or other responsible parties at the clear direction of each one of us well in advance of a crisis.

That'll teach 'em.

Help? What is Church Teaching on this? If she can't commnunicate, when does life support become extraordinary means?

We are witnessing the brutal murder of an American citizen. Complicit in the murder are Terri's husband, the American medical system, the American judicial system, the American political system, and the Catholic Church of Florida. Our constitution has been abandoned. We're enslaved by judical tyranny. In the absence of leaders with wisdom, vision, and courage, we're on the verge of bloody anarchy. Having excluded God, perhaps we ought to pray Lord have mercy, rather than God bless America.

Please do what you can -- phone Florida Gov. Jeb Bush -- call (850) 488-7146 (comments line) and (850) 488-4441 (Gov. Office); email jeb@jeb.org. Contact Bishop Robert Lynch, Catholic Diocese of St. Petersburg: (727) 344-1611. Urge President Bush and his administration to find a proper federal basis to save Terri's life: The White House: (202) 456-1414; US Attorney General John Ashcroft: (202) 514-2001; US Dept. of Justice, Civil Rights Division: (202) 514-2151. And pray for all involved.

This is murder pure and simple. Every Catholic within reach should be breaking down the doors and attempting to stop this by every means possible, including civil disobedience. At the very top of the list should be Bishop Lynch, who, as I heard someone suggest, should have thrown his body over Terri's and said "No! You will not do this!" Do we believe this is murder, or don't we?

I wonder if the bishop gets a commission on the sale of living wills.

"May the author of all life look kindly on Terri and provide consolation and hope for those who love her." Because they sure ain't gonna get it from the wee Archbishop; I assume the fine Archbishop won't be fasting for the next 40 days?

"I continue to believe that such decisions should not be made in the court system but must be made on a case-by-case basis by families and/or other responsible parties at the clear direction of each one of us well in advance of a crisis." Yup. Just like cases of scandalous priests. Keep the courts out. Just say no to Briscoe and Logan. Nice touch on the "other responsible" parties so we can be inclusive of gay adoptive parents of IVF test tube babies and hybrid embryos.

Because if you're a waffler in a position of Authority, you certainly wouldn't want anyone to get the impression that the Papal Hammer could hit the Ecclessial nail on the head with a juridicial decision now would you? On October 19th, I will pray to our newest Saint that the removal of the feeding tube is a martyr's typology for the removal of red and white hats that need removing, subject to God's Providence.
