08/11/2009 - Do We Have a Right to Die?
I've read too much over the past few weeks about "respect for the decision" of those who seek to end their own lives, so I've addressed it in the blog: Respecting the Right to Choose Death.
Based on this blog entry, some have asked whether I believe it is morally necessary to oppose capital punishment as well as euthanasia. My answer is that euthanasia must be opposed on principle, whereas capital punishment is morally acceptable under certain circumstances, as is killing through self-defense and, by extension, just war. Decisions about these matters are, within strict limits ably defined by the Church, matters of prudence....
