It would be very wrong to give the Pope's latest encyclical, Caritas in Veritate, short shrift, as if to dismiss its viewpoint or its vision. But it is not necessarily wrong to try to get the Pope's message without reading the entire document.

We can offer two ways to do that. In the first place, the Pope himself highlighted the key themes of his encyclical in his regular Wednesday audience on July 8th: Pope, at public audience, follows up on social encyclical. However, the Pope's own highlights are extremely brief and do not serve as a guide to the entire text....
