Lent is a time for us to reflect on our own resistance to grace, whether a reluctance to commit to greater virtue or, worse, an unwillingness to accept the teachings of the Church Christ founded for our salvation.

It is in this spirit that I offer a very serious reflection on Pope Francis and Bernard Häring: The literally infernal cheek of dissent.

The best response to infidelity in the Church, no matter where we find it, is to commit ourselves even more strongly to a deeply prayerful fidelity. Phil Lawler once again reminds us: Prayers for Pope Francis—now more than ever.

At the same time, we know that all kinds of controversies have entered into the history of the Church. Thomas Van's latest installment in his series on the Fathers considers minor figures (more like us!) who had to navigate a great deal of error to reach the truth: Church Fathers: The Lesser Alexandrians.
