It is a sad fact of our busy lives that we often fail to maintain close connections with others whose lives might be changed significantly if we did. And we often fail to see the logical connections in the many patterns of good and evil with which we are confronted.

In today's message, then, I'd like to highlight the important connections suggested by most of the new materials posted on CatholicCulture.org over the past few days.

The best example is clearly Jennifer Gregory Miller's lovely and inspiring essay on the relationship between herself and a beloved cousin who is dying of cancer. See Connected through Christ.

The filming of Shusaku Endo's searing book Silence has had a significant yet sometimes troubling impact on viewers. It suggests the all-too-close connections between faith and doubt, hope and despair, humility and pride.
