eNewsletter Subject: The Catholic Furor over Islam
Last Friday we reported that the President of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences challenged Islamic scholars to give a peaceful interpretation of the Qu'ran. He noted that there are passages which make this very difficult.
It was surprising, then, that in a debate with Robert Spencer of jihadwatch.com, the justly admired Msgr. Stuart Swetland overstated his case that Spencer's characterization of Islam as violent constitutes dissent from the Magisterium.

A further survey of recent Catholic World News stories suggests that Catholic news is seldom without such ironies. For example, a monastery in Quebec, reduced from 170 to eight sisters over the past 50 years, has reinvented itself as an award-winning hotel for personal rejuvenation.
