Pope Francis has been very active in attempting to heal important long-standing rifts. The Vatican has announced that the Pope and the Orthodox Patriarch of Constantinople have set the stage for a new Council at Nicea in 2025, in the hope for a reunion of East and West into one Church.

At almost the same time, we learn that the presidents of both Israel and Palestine will join Pope Francis to pray for peace on June 8th.

Speaking of divisions, Thomas Van has reviewed a fascinating novel by Lucy Beckett from Ignatius Press. It explores the difficulties of Jewish life in the world's ideological cauldron during and after World War II: Ideology vs. individual: a novel of ideas.

Thomas has also unveiled, in On the Good, the new blog of a noted Catholic musician who is seeking to improve our understanding of popular music: A serious take on popular music. (As you may have noticed, CatholicCulture.org is slowly improving its Catholic coverage of the arts.)...
