This week Phil Lawler has once again shown both his wit and the breadth of his Catholic interests in a range of relatively brief commentaries:

Meanwhile, we might ask the score in the contest between the cabbages and the kings. The Cabbages Award goes to the Leadership Conference of Catholic Religious. You can judge how their reform is going by this news story: LCWR announces top award for theologian criticized by US bishops.

But the Kings Award goes to the scholars on whom the following news story is based: Coptic text mentioning 'wife of Jesus' shown as a fraud. Much like Elizabeth Johnson’s book (see cabbages, above), as Catholic witness goes, it’s a forgery.... [more content for subscribers]
