I noticed yesterday that yet another poll has been done to teach us how Catholic values correlate with Catholic teaching. From one point of view, the results are alarming, but I couldn't help but laugh at the obviousness of it all: The Quinnipiac Poll: Predictability Is the Most Important Takeaway.

More refreshing is the very good news that two and a half million people participated in a 42-mile youth pilgrimage a few days ago in Argentina. 2.5 million!

Another news story that caught my eye relates to our own American government shutdown. Apparently, the US House voted to ensure religious services on military bases by a tally of 400 to 1!

Turning to the government of the Church, which is far from shut down, the announcement of a new synod for 2014 provides interesting perspective on how Pope Francis hopes to give synods a more effective role in revitalizing the Church: Pope calls special meeting of Synod of Bishops to address family issues....
